Reactor Institute Delft (RID)
The Reactor Institute Delft (RID) is part of the Applied Sciences faculty of the Delft University of Technology. It operates radiation-related facilities and houses the Radiation, Radionuclides & Reactors (R3
) department of the same faculty. The knowledge and expertise of RID play an important role in fundamental and applied scientific research in various fields, both nationally and internationally. Our activities are described in four (Dutch-language) brochures:
RID boasts the only nuclear Hoger Onderwijs Reactor (HOR) reactor
in The Netherlands in an academic setting - a 2 MW pool-type research reactor. Such a reactor is not built to produce electrical power, but is a source of neutrons for research purposes. Next to it and around it, there is a subcritical ensembe (Delphi), a very intense positron source (POSH), radiochemical laboratories and various neutron instruments. Our extensive expertise with respect to radiation and health physics is made available in the form of consultancies and health physics courses on all levels. We have wonderful plans for the future, with more and even better facilities, under the acronym OYSTER
Our knowledge and facilities are available to researchers, from industry or academia, from the Netherlands as well as from abroad. The research department R3 works in the fields of health and energy, more often than not at the fundamental, material properties level.
On this website, we present our offerings. Because our facilities and techniques can be applied to many subjects, the site can be accessed from the viewpoint of applications and research problems, besides the more traditional enumeration of facilities and their specifications.
