Positioning paper Healthcare

From technology-push Healthcure to Healthcare

We believe that Healthcare lacks real involvement of people in defining their needs, create (product) solutions and that this leads to a non-optimal Healthcare system, and to an envisioned future that is based on technology-push.

We believe that designers can play a key role in changing this situation and improve both the quality and safety of healthcare by generating and applying custom made interaction models, design methodologies and design tools for the domain of Healthcare.

These tools and methodologies are obtained by exploring the behavior, the experience and the physical aspects of the people involved in Healthcare (patient, family and staff) in relation to their (complex) interactions with themselves (inner world), each other and their environment.

In this way we contribute to the body of knowledge of design for Healthcare and the education of designers for Healthcare. Leading to better-equipped designers in the field.

It is our mission is to change Healthcare by means of these designers.

We think the following domains need to be studied:

Hearing people

Methods and tools to extract (hear) the real needs of patients, family and staff.

Fundamental shopping

Adapting behavioral theories to healthcare

Adapting theories and findings of human factors to healthcare

Align with inner world

Explore perceptual reality

Align with intuition

Supportive environments

Implement theories of learning

Implement behavioral theories
